Lantmännen’s new wheat protein production plant opens in Sweden

Lantmännen Biorefineries, an agricultural cooperative and a leader in bioenergy and food products in Northern Europe, opened its new production facility for wheat protein in Norrköping, Sweden, in May. The facility increases the company’s total production capacity of wheat protein from 9,000 tons to 29,000 tons annually.

Lantmännen’s cooperative is owned by 18,000 Swedish farmers, with operations in over 20 countries. “Interest in plant-based proteins is increasing as more businesses discover new uses for the ingredients,” Lantmännen’s press release states. “The raw material, wheat, comes directly from arable land and the members’ farms—Swedish farmers. Without intermediaries, the quality of the raw material, production capacity, and the quality of the wheat protein extracted are ensured at a very high and consistent level.”

The Norrköping site also adds approximately 30 new employees to the group.
